Evolution of the ideological component in Soviet-American confrontation in regional armed conflict (1970–1980s)

In this article the author examines the evolution of the ideological component in the Soviet-American confrontation through regional armed conflicts in the final 20 years of the ‘Cold War’. The author argues that the United States’ ideological concept on a global confrontation between the superpowers in regional armed conflicts remained essentially unchanged throughout the period chosen for the study, while complex ideological views of the Soviet Union on the subject can be divided into two fundamentally different approaches in content before and after 1985.
